This is a pretty cool optical illusion that creates the illusion of motion by alternating between left-side and right-side images and the blanking out every third frame: Two-Stroke Illusion
A long time ago I observed a somewhat related (but different) effect when using an early non-linear editing system (the Video Toaster). In certain freeze modes it would start shifting back and forth between interlaced fields and make the object in the center appear to “pop” out at you.
I think this one is pretty interesting too. I looked at it at first and wasn’t impressed. Then I read the description and found out what I was actually seeing. I had an “Aha!” moment: The World’s Largest Lightness Illusion
